The Shoemoney Effect

What’s the Shoemoney Effect? It’s a term I’ve decided to coin, similar to the John Chow Effect. Its what happens when you do something with a bigger blogger (in this case 15000 reader blogs). In my case I did an interview with Shoemoney that can be found here.

Guess what, that interview has got close to the same amount of traffic than the whole rest of my blog put together. GO FIGURE! (The interview has got 350 unique views and counting while the rest of the blog has got a little over 500 unique views and counting).

Hence, the Shoemoney Effect, its something bloggers should capitalize on (not necessarily the Shoemoney Effect if you’re not in the niche, but the (Insert another big blogger name here) effect for the niche they are in). Take a celebrity or big name in your field and interview them or write a story about them. People want to hear what they have to say, and having them around gives your readers a little spice along with your own quality posts.

Here’s an example of the John Chow Effect (mentioned in the post).  I feel the Shoemoney Effect is the same concept. A large traffic boost and a reader subscription increase due to coverage by/of the blog and/or its writer. With a 15000 reader RSS coverage having your name mentioned in Shoemoney (or any large blog) will definitely benefit you as their readers will possibly check you out, and potentially stick around to hear what you have to say also.

To me, this coverage is more effective than any advertising because it brings QUALITY TARGETTED traffic. People that want to read the same kind of stuff your writing about. This will convert into more RSS readers and repeat readers for you giving you a permanent traffic boost. Its also more effective due to it actually being read content rather than an ad someone reads. This way you get more branding out of it anyways. Next time someone sees your name, they’ll think, “oh yeah, that’s what I read about on (insert name here)’s blog! Your brand is already in their head you don’t have to establish it from scratch.

Hopefully in the future Jeremy (Shoemoney) will grant me the pleasure of another interview or maybe some other cool and interesting thing. Who knows, will I get to experience the Shoemoney Effect again? I sure hope so!

  1. Getting these guys to review your website will always yield great results.

Getting an interview of them as you have is not easy but as you have noticed it will bring in some traffic.

  4. Those waves are good to ride. I had gotten digged by a popular person which caused a lot of their friends to digg some of my other stuff and created a nice wave of hits before google said that I had fraud clicks and lost $800.

  5. [...] Where do you go from here? Now that you have a promising way of getting Jeremy to at least hear you, you better be prepared to talk with Jeremy and deliver what you promise! If he does want to roll with your offer… you better be prepared for Shoemoney Effect! [...]

  6. You just need to be plugged by the right person or in the right place to take a poorly performing blog or website to astronomic levels.

Great content and SEO are all well and good, but networking is the name of the game.

  7. Does following the A-listers bring you any real money though? Its impossible for someone who didnt’ start a blog t the time chow or shoemoney did to actually get to the same place: what is most of their money from: selling to their followers: so if you are not them you aren’t going to get that following are you?
