The Importance Of Posting Consistently
A lot of people stress the importance of posting regularly. To me its one of the key downfalls of a blogger. On that note, I’m sorry for not posting yesterday, please forgive me?
I’m not your average RSS type of guy, if I like you I’ll email subscribe, but even if I do, I am old fashioned. I go around checking my favorite blogs every day when I have a spare moment to see if there’s anything new. There’s always that rush of expecting new (and hopefully exciting) content to be associate with it (yes, I’m weird, I get it).
The point I’m trying to make is that I check blogs by hand and by RSS/Email subscription. When I check blogs by hand and there is no new content, it’s a bit disappointing to see no new content. Its fine due to the fact that most blogs I read post on a day to day schedule or close to it. I read Shoemoney for one, I love that he has new content almost every time I check. If I’m looking for some good reading I’ll read his stuff.
BloggerNoob is another, he always has fresh content. This is what keeps a guy like me coming back to the blogs. Another blog that I used to check everyday but now I’ve stopped is TylerCruz.com. Why did I stop? Simple, he stopped posting frequently in the last week or so and there’s no new content. I love his writing style but, Why would I want to read the same thing today that I read yesterday?
Keeping posting frequently or at least on a schedule helps secure you readers. Consistency is a key factor, you want to maintain a level of output and quality. Even if you post three times a week, if its frequent your readers will know what to expect and just check less. But they will come back.
If a reader comes back time after time expecting to see new content but finding none, they will become disinterested with the blog. When that happens, they’ll stop coming as frequently and eventually not at all.
Call me old fashioned, but there are other guys out there like me! To my readers and all the other bloggers in the “blogosphere” please post new content regularly or on a schedule. Consistency helps your readers out, and the readers are your revenue source! Not only does consistency keep people manually checking your site, but it gives your RSS subscribers something to read (and hopefully look forward to). They should have a good idea of when new content should be coming up.

I agree with you. I try pretty hard to make sure I post new content (and hopefully people see it as good quality content) everyday. It is definitely important if you are a new blogger, like myself, because you don’t want to push your readers away
I finally have 32 readers (which isn’t a lot in comparison to others), and I want that number to only increase!
Great post!!
Thanks, Its true, you do post daily content I enjoy what you post, and as a result, i DO read your blog (and have subscribed). Keep up the great work
thanks for the link love. i’m finding it harder to post everyday, but i try to do it as a sort of discipline. it keeps me on a schedule. hopefully i can keep this up
@The Noob
I think you do good with the amount of posts you submit.
Noob- Ha ha, true say. 4+ posts on Feb 22, all of them good, impressive!
No problem for the link love, my pleasure!
Jonathon - even with the amount of posts he submits, he still submits quality content, which is probably the most important factor.
Though I don’t post up regularly, I don’t post up for the sake of it. I’ve always felt that if someone stops visiting my site ‘cos I don’t post up everyday, then they’re quite fickle.
For me, if I like a site, I’ll pass by as often as I can to check for updates, and if they haven’t updated in a day, a week, couple of weeks, that’s fine by me. When they finally get to, I read it. Simple as that.
I know a few sites like selfmadechick.com and davenavarro.com that don’t post up everyday, and yet their feed-reads are quite healthy.
On the other hand, I know some sites like bloggernoob’s, theuniversitykid.com and mydebtfreegoal.com that post up more frequently and get a fair amount of readers too.
So I don’t think you can necessarily make a direct correlation b/w blog-posting frequency and visitor frequency.
No, but, I did say, that it’s not about posting regularily necessarily, but also about posting consistantly. When you post consistantly your users expect something of you. If you start posting irregularily you will loose readers or they will become disgruntled. Not a good thing for a blogger whos income relys on their readers.
I agree about the correlation, it can not be made, but I do think that on average people that post more regularily do tend to pick up a more “active” reader base
Yes, This is the first condition, you must update your blog daily.
I’m an RSS kinda guy, and I read so much that if a new blog is really prolific I just won’t follow it, despite my best desire to do so. Read too much already. Personally, consistent > regular / daily. As for my blog, well… I should do more of both.
@ Sam - Ha ha, yeah, but for most, if you’re consistent and have a high quality and rate of post, you will find most readers will stick with your blog longer.
Good points……I know I’m a type in the browser blog checker myself, I just can’t help it
I do think consistent posting is great, now, what that is for each person may be different, as long as it’s on a regular. Once a week, once a day, once a month, 5 times a week, whatever….
Though…sometimes it could be good to switch it up…you may surprise your readers with some content when they aren’t expecting it.
JK Swopess last blog post..Why building a list and gaining RSS subscribers doesn’t work
this is a great and informative post, some do not realize the truth to this! it is extremely important.
