Sunday Stats #7 - March 23, 2008

Sunday is a time for reflection for me. It is a time to look at the difference between this weeks stats and last weeks stats, a time to tweak the blog and figure out what I can do better.

Stats

Here are last weeks stats:

  • Alexa Rank: 167,031
  • Technorati Rank: 283,266
  • Unique Visitors: 2,055
  • RSS subscribers: 60

Here are this weeks stats:

  • Alexa Rank: 155,480
  • Technorati Rank: 224,227
  • Unique Visitors: 2,983
  • RSS subscribers: 59

Analysis

Again things are mainly looking up. Traffic is at an all time high almost breaching the 3,000 unique visitor mark this week. As a result both my Alexa and Technorati Ranks are up.

The one stat that is down is RSS subscribers and its down by 1. This isn’t a huge problem for me as I feel that my current reader base will continue to expand, and with a contest wrapping up mid-week I anticipated at fall, one RSS subscriber is relatively light. I expect that it will bounce above the sixty mark this week.

Earnings

This week has been good for earnings. My blog won the domain name contest over at BloggerNoob. The prize was a nice $72. Also through PayPerPost, $6 came in. This brings this weeks earnings up to $78. Also, I have had one or two ad requests for my 125×125 spots. Both haven’t closed yet, so I’m not counting them as earnings. Don’t count your chickens until they’ve hatched.

Link love

There is some link love for my top commentators. Thanks guys.

Thoughts

I’ve been thinking in the next few months as soon as the blogs ad space fully fills up to switching Sunday stats to monthly stats. The reason for this is that ad space is very hard to measure per week since it is sold on a monthly basis. What do you guys think?

The other though I had is switching to an automated ad selling system like oiopublisher to sell my ad space. Although I would have to shell out $37, I think it would save me a considerable amount of time, and energy, regarding ad space.

That’s about a wrap for this Sunday. As always I’d love to hear what you guys have to say about my musings and any feedback is always appreciated :D

I strongly recommend that you consider switching to monthly stats, at least in the near future if not right away. It’s a way more professional approach and I think that at this moment when your enterprise is quite established, the natural excitement of having your stats displayed every week should fade and you should go for the old-pro way.
Thanks for the link love.

No problem Ted. I happen to agree with you. While the blog is small its easy to measure success week to week, etc. But when it gets larger it gets harder. Also, I’m not sure how many readers want to read stats every week. Every month its a treat, every week it might get to be a bore in a bit as the blog gets bigger.

Thanks for the input.

Well, it did get big enough as to think that it’s just about time we get treated with links and stats monthly instead of daily. Anyways, on a more personal level, I must sincerely congratulate you for doing such a good job in so little time. Peace out

Good one, Mattaw!

I think you should charge more on your 125×125 :) Just my opinion…

Cheers!

@ Ted- will take that into consideration. I’ll wrap up March weekly, and then go into April monthly.

@Ivan - thats what I was also thinking. The thing is I haven’t closed on all my ad spots yet. When I close on all of them I will raise prices a little for next month. Right now money isn’t that huge a factor in the blogs success. Getting a readership base and quality content will pay off more in the future. Also readers buy my ads at the moment, so its a good thing to have them moderately priced for them (for the time being)

Nice little increase in your ranking stats there. :D

Monthly stats seems all right by me. :)

If I want to automate it, I would use Project Wonderful. Never heard of oiopublish before. -_-

OiO is a platform that allows you to sell ad space directly and is automated. A lot of blogs have it on there. Its a paid plugin so I have to think to I want to shell out cash and is it worth it. Right now I’m leaning towards yes.

Congratulation on the revenue. Don’t get caught up in the # just try to do the best you can and the revenue will follow.

Shanker, there is another, and I believe it’s not to late to enter!

@HomeBiz - Numbers are an indicator of how I am doing. I look at them but they aren’t the be all, end all, of everything. If the numbers are good, its telling me I’m doing SOMETHING, right :D

Nice stats Mattaw. Seems your blog is really starting to do good. Now that I am over the flu and my site is back up (it was down for THREE days!!!) I can get to posting.
