Sunday for me has turned from a time of stats into a time of reflection. I want to open my mind to you, my readers, and give you little tidbits of what’s been happening.
If you’re not on this network, get on it now! It is one of the best communities I have found. It is not cold like diggs, and not as random as StumbleUpon. It is a decent source of traffic and has a very comprehensive community oriented set of features that the other social networks lack. If you are on Mixx, drop a comment with a link to you’re profile and I’ll add you as a friend.
Traffic wise, Mixx brings me around 500 unique visitors a month. While this is smaller compared to Stumbleupon and other sites, it is targeted traffic, and the bounce rate and average time on the site is higher for Mixx users.
So the website (JohnCow.com) is up for sale . Nothing is official yet, but I have a inkling he’ll get the $50,000 he asked for. The website is a successful blog in the MMO (make money online) niche and it’s sad to see it change hands. The Cow seems to have left the building.
There is still time to enter, the contest features over $800 in prizes. So, if you want a great chance to win free stuff, enter! Okay, enough with the shameless plug, onto the “Tip From a Pro”.
Tip From a Pro
Today’s tip comes from Richard at RedSpider. Redspider is a programming firm that has worked on notable projects such as IMoondo and recently, Entrecard.
Today’s tip is about the difference between a quality programmer, versus one that you outsource cheaply from a place like India.
The real difference between a quality programmer and a cheap one from the buyers perspective is their ability to work with you. The experience, both in software and in life, that a quality coder brings to the job means they can interact with you as a partner, not simply a translation mechanism from your head to code.
A quality programmer can help distill the essence of the idea that you’re trying to implement, can use their experience to improve the concept in line with modern technologies and possibilities, can anticipate the needs you didn’t even know were there, and can make intelligent decisions in line with your goal without constantly stopping and waiting for you.
A quality programmer will deliver a product that is more reliable, more secure and more maintainable than a cheap coder, and often deliver it quicker as well.
There is no doubt you pay a premium, but IT has a terrible reputation for projects unfinished, way over budget, and with a really bad fit to the problem. If a job is worth hiring someone to do it, it’s worth hiring someone to do it right.

I have a Mixx account but I don’t use it as much as I used to. Been so busy I just haven’t had a chance to keep up with it.
@Mattaw: I’m glad you mention mixx, I absolutely love it, not for the traffic (yesterday I had a front page story and I barely got me 50 visitors) but for the kind of people you meet there and for the true transparency that kinda lacks in other places.
@Jonathon: Find me there, I’ll show you around, introduce you to the nice people there
The last two days I have been transforming my content based website into a hybrid blog and have had computer failures and compliance issues. The problem come from using an I-frame and the SEO and internal linking problems that come from I-frames. The profit on the site has far exceeded expectation for a 2month old website and the blog will ensure daily updates and increase earning potentials.
mine is midomssh at mixx and yes i agree with you about it
@ Jon- mind sharing the link to your Mixx profile, I’ll add you.
@ Ted- absolutely, as I said, its highly targetted, and better traffic than other networks. I have also met some great people through mixx and although I have gone frontpage quite a few times, people don’t seem to get sick of me!
@ homebiz - nice, keep me posted! I’m on my way to check it out now, but honestly, keep up the great work!
Hi Max,
Didnt Johncow list his blog for sale in the past to drum up site awareness and traffic? I could be completely wrong as I just went googling for it and couldnt see anything. Either way if he is really selling it is a shame so many jokers are leading him on which you can read about on his blog.
I noticed mixx about two months ago as I started to receive traffic from it but not seriously checkd it out but I think I will now. If your about on msn later I will drop you my user ID to add as a friend.
Hi thereEvery other blog I have read about Increase Website Traffic, has been lacking in information. Your insight into Increase Website Traffic is sooooo much better than anything else I have read. Thanks Michelle
