Social Media Part Two: Choosing The Network

So, before you start anything, you have to pick the network that will work for you. Each person is unique with their website and as a result the websites they create to promote are also unique.

How to do it

There are general networks that work for almost any niche. Stumbleupon, Digg and Mixx are good examples of these networks. For blogs there are networks like BlogEngage and Blogsvine that are category specific (blog).

To find the network to use I do a few things. For one there are the social media lists on sites like DoshDosh (link here). This link is the best one I’ve found and has showed me some really great sites that I can use to drive some nice traffic.

Secondly, I look around. Where are other people submitting to. I ask my friends, colleagues and even strangers where they submit to and possibly try out those sources for their traffic.

After you’ve signed up

After you’ve signed up with a network, test it out. Submit a few articles and try and gauge the quality of the traffic you get. I find if I can get a few unique quality visitors from a lowly submission, the network may be worth investing more time in to.

Secondly, I look for other friends that are using it and start networking outwards from day one

Reddit Digg Facebook Technorati Google StumbleUpon Furl Yahoo Newsvine Mixx

That link you left sending us to the list of social network sites is big! Too bad Blog Engage wasn’t listed there but I guess we’re still to new only been up for 7 months now! Something you should also do is add information to your profile! Things like website url and an avatar! It helps you get more votes because people remember you from the picture!

Thanks for adding us on your article it’s awesome!
