This is a paid review and is entirely of my own opinion. The fact that I am paid for it in no way biases this review.
Some of you may remember my first review of PublisherSpot. Since that review a lot has happened with the website and my good buddy Tyler thought it would be prudent to have me do an update post to let you all know what’s been going on.
The Improvements
You may remember that I had suggested that there be a way for affiliates to take part in the reviews on PublisherSpot if they had a different point. Well although Tyler didn’t take my exact suggestion, he did implement a comments section (as seen below) that allows you to say what you think about the reviews. To comment, you have to be a registered user and logged in though.
He also boosted the review rating system so it isn’t so easily gamed. Now only reviews with over 10 votes can be top reviews as it gives them some time to get a feel for what people truly think, not just a handful of people anyone can throw at a review to make it seem a lot higher than it is. Although the reviews ratings can still be gamed, it now is much harder and less likely that people have the time to do so or will do so. The one downside to this is to rate networks you yet again have to be logged in (and a registered user).
There are also more reviews than ever. At the time of writing this post there are 45 reviews up on PublisherSpot. I know you think with this many reviews it might be hard to find what you’re looking for, but you’re wrong!
The search features have also been updated to make finding what you want easier and faster. It also offers ways to show you what’s been happening on the networks with a news stream on the home page (shown below).
Another really great thing that Tyler has done with the site is he has made a universal user login. No longer do you need a separate username and password to log into the site, forum and blog. With this recent round of updates, Tyler has consolidated all of this into one log in greatly improving the websites functionality.
With this round of updates has also come advertising. No longer is PublisherSpot only earning off referral commission. Now it has a few banner ad spaces as well as options networks to pay to be featured on the homepage (shown below) and on other pages on the website. You can check out their advertising rates here.
Although some may feel this lowers the quality of the website, I disagree. Sure there are some banners, but it shows you what networks want to reach out to affiliates actively, and also allows Tyler to make more money that he would hopefully re-invest into PublisherSpot to make it even better.
What Could Still Be Touched Up (Constructive Criticism)
I still strongly feel that old networks that are dead should not have their reviews left up on PublisherSpot. I think reviews of networks such as their review of Agloco should be taken down. It’s simply the fact that they no longer exist so I feel the reviews don’t really help anyone at all.
The one problem I have with the advertising is the featured networks option. This is where networks can pay to be featured on the top of the home page and search results for PublisherSpot reviews. The problem is that this may allow a bad network to be featured. I’d rather see a good network there for free than a bad network pay its way into gaining affiliates from a website that is all about helping out affiliates.
Besides that I think the glossary page on PublisherSpot is a great resource for new affiliates that is sort of tucked away. Right now it is hidden in the bottom right corner of the website. I think Tyler should try and give it a bit more exposure as it is truly a good resource to learn some industry lingo if you don’t know it.
Wrap-Up
In conclusion, this round of updates to PublisherSpot once again proved that it is a leader in network reviews. I really like the project and Tyler is a great guy (as well as a good buddy of mine online). Go check it out now if you haven’t. I would expect to only see the site get better from here on out as more networks are reviewed and the site continues to grow and be improved.
