Preparing To Quit Your Dayjob

How To Quit Your JobRecently a good buddy of mine quit his dayjob to work full time online doing affiliate marketing. I can’t say his name (at his request) but I want to use his story to illustrate a few key lessons about fulltime online work in relation to quitting your job.

This friend (we will call him Charly), had been making quite a lot of money off affiliate marketing for the past little while but had waited until now to quit his job. He is a great guy and will be very successful doing this full time. One of the reasons he will be successful is he took all the necessary steps to ensure his transition into fulltime online money making was as “smooth as possible”

One thing that he said to me that I think should be on everyone’s mind is, “I make this much doing this 4-5 hours a day, imagine how much I could make if I did it fulltime”.

With that quote in mind, I want to take you through a few things you should do (when you quit your dayjob), to make sure your transition to the fulltime world of making money online is as smooth as possible.

Don’t quit as soon as you make it – As soon as you start making a lot of money online don’t rush to quit your job. Save up, invest and be wise with your money. Just cause you’re making lots of money now doesn’t mean you will be a year from now, or even two years from now. Careful investing and saving (before you quit) can ensure that you can get through the “bad times” and continue to not have to go back to working your old job.

Always have a backup plan – Even though you’ve stepped into making money online full time, always have a backup plan. What if your revenue goes down the tube or something happens that forces you to have to get another stream of revenue. This can be as easy as keeping some contact links alive so if you need a job you can get one.

Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket – As stated above, things happen, a revenue stream can bomb. Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your revenue stream so that it can withstand a hit to one stream (without forcing you back to your day job).

Don’t burn any bridges – When you quit your job, don’t burn any bridges. People will remember you after you’re gone, and what if you are forced to come back (to that same job). By keeping all your relationships intact, you prepare for the future and make sure you have a positive reputation around the old workplace.

All of the above will help you be prepared and ready to get working online full time. So, get out there and I hope to see a few more of my friends move into earning online fulltime. I quote, “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars” :D

As a blogger and internet marketer I have seen my share of those people that made the jump from offline life to the complete online lifestyle, this is great do not let anyone discourage you, but please take to heart things that you take for granite, like health care, savings and retirement.

Many of us are young as a demographic, but having already spent a week in the ICU at my very young age of 26 I know the benefits of having insurance. If you leave your job also plan for emergencies and the unexpected, as you could be left with nothing because of your lack of planning.

Good Luck!

Good post Max…there are many factors that you need to consider when doing this and I think you’ve covered them well. Also, like Ben said, make sure you have some insurance lined up, especially if you have a family.

There is insurance available for home workers…make sure that stuff is lined up before you leave. And I agree…don’t burn any bridges.
