Moneybites Questions And Answers Round 5 Answers

Thanks for all your questions guys! Some of the questions this time were definitely a lot tougher but I answered all of them as honestly and clearly as I could :D

Rajaie AlKorani - 1. How do you decide which links you include in your blogroll? (link exchange, friends, etc.)

2. Do you think that someone below the age of 18 has the same chances of being as equally successful then someone over 18?

3. What are your ultimate goals for this blog? (fame, fortune, authority, fun, etc.)

Mattaw – Well let me go one by one. Firstly, I include friends links in my blogroll or things I happen to like or links that I give away, it’s not that organized how things get there honestly.

2) In terms of age, I think the younger you are can give you an edge. You have way more time to grow up with the industry and see it evolve, as well as immerse yourself in it. That being said, too young an age can lack experience. So I think it really depends on who you are and your skill set rather than your age.

3) For the blog, it’s more of a fun project that I hope helps others at this point. I don’t mind the authority it gives me and some recognition as well. It’s grown thanks to readers like you guys, and I like seeing and hearing from each and every one of you.

Sly from SlyVisions dot Com - 1) How did you get hired by MTVcanada?

2) How else do you make money online other than this blog and from the companies you work for?

3) How did you get started in this business?

Mattaw – 1) For the MTV question, I feel it was a combination of a connection and a good first impression as well as having the knowledge and skill set they required and could utilize.

2) I make money online through various revenue streams. This blog being but one of them. I do a bunch of work with various companies as well as some affiliate marketing to round out the field.

3) Wow, I have to think back for this one. I got started because a couple people I knew were doing something semi related and I came across this whole field. I gave it a try and have been here ever since ;)

Lawrence - How did a big company like MTV Canada hire you - or what role did you play in that division?

Mattaw – As stated before, I chalk it up to a combination of a connection and a good first impression as well as the skill set for the work needed. I work with MTVCanada’s Digital Marketing team on various internet marketing initiatives.

Adsensing - 1) What is the most important blogging tip ever?

2) If you take your time spent working online, profit made minus expenses, what’s your average wage per hour?

Mattaw – 1) The most important tip is to just start. So many people are scared of starting or are just too lazy. If you just suck it up and jump in, you’d be surprised what can happen!

2) I’ve never broken it down, because I don’t keep track of hours I work (I just work until it’s done), so I honestly couldn’t tell you and even if I could, I don’t release my total income (sorry guys).

Nick Throlson - 1. Where do you see google in 5 years they have done so many things just since 2000 do you think in 5 years?

2. also do you think google will have there own automobile and become a new car maker in the USA ?

Mattaw – 1) I see Google still being the powerhouse they are but perhaps expanding into general PC’s. I can’t say I truly have anything to base that off as I’m not fortune teller!

2) Nope, Google deals with the internet and computers not cars ;)

Lucas - Do you think Chrome will be an epic fail, despite Google’s intense marketing efforts?

Mattaw – I think Chrome will do alright. I do feel Firefox has a pretty strong hold online right now though. It may just fade and become a decent secondary browser.

Static - If you had one tip that you could give to someone who was wishing to start blogging, what would it be?

Mattaw – Just do it! Get out there and start a blog, you’re wasting time wishing! With the services out there today you can start a blog for free on Blogger or Wordpress so there is no reason that if you want to blog that you can’t start right now!

axioblogger - How did you think of blog gears and how do you get traffic to blog gears?

Mattaw – My good friend and partner Simon Emery and I came up with the idea for BlogGears using TechCrunch Pitches as the inspiration source. Traffic comes from various bloggers, RSS subscribers and video submitters. Although traffic and videos have dropped off for a bit don’t count us out of the race, we do have a few things cooking, BlogGears is just fine where it is right now.

Richard Bonner - When’s your next market leverage contest? seems like yours is the only one I can find that allows people who are signed up already to enter

2) When you find a campaign doing well, maybe making $50-$100 profit a day. What do you do to increase the revenue/profit for it?

Mattaw – As soon as I decide I want to have another and contact MarketLeverage’s advertising team. If there is interest, I’ll definitely try to have one out in a little while!

2) You optimize. Keep split testing to increase your CTR and conversion rate. Try out different offers and different ad text, you never know what works. Also if you haven’t you can expand to other search platforms (example: if you’re on Google, use Yahoo and MSN’s paid search programs) to increase the volume of traffic you send to an offer. As always you should also be constantly cutting away bad keywords if any pop up.

Big Ben Patton - Dofollow in comments or nofollow? If dofollow top commentators? What is the successful equation for not losing page rank when going dofollow vs keeping your juice on a nofollow? Does it matter?

Mattaw – I use no follow on all comments but do follow on top commentators. I do feel that do follow blogs will/have feel some bite in upcoming pagerank updates as Google seems to like to do things like that. I think it matters only as much as you let it matter. How much do you care about pagerank? If the question is you don’t, do follow for sure, but if you really do care, perhaps no follow is the best option for you!

Ooh, looks like you forgot to close the bold tags!

Thanks for answering my question, I just discovered the you created OIO Publisher a few weeks ago, about the same time you created BlogGears. As for working for MTVCanada, now I know why you once asked me to Stumble some MTV page….
