MoneyBites Question and Answer Round 4 Answers

So here were all your questions and my answers:

AnotherMMOblog Do you or have you ever done blackhat methods of making money online? Or any blackhat methods in general?

Mattaw – All my methods for actually earning online have not been blackhat. That being said, I have engaged in one or two backhat methods in my time for a few websites. Every successful person goes over the line once or twice. I would wager 90% of the people you talk to have done the same.

Ryan Cote- Besides Adwords, Yahoo, MSN and Facebook…what is the best way to drive quality traffic to affiliate marketing campaigns?

Mattaw – Ryan, I assume you’re talking PPC campaigns. Because if you weren’t we could talk about building mailing lists off your landing pages (which can still be a small option on certain ppc pages), or organic conversions. I would look at a lot of the tier two PPC engines. A lot of the smaller ones that serve contextual ads or search results may be decent traffic sources. That being said, most of these can be a bit shady so you have to watch carefully for fake clicks and proper tracking. What these can give you is a decent amount of extremely low cost clicks..

Tom Rooney - Mattaw, Great site and thanks for taking my question. I’m just starting out and need to know how do I drive traffic quickly to a site with a limited amount of funds? The blog I have now is only seeing 20 to 30 visits a day and I know I need to bring more people in order to market correctly.

Mattaw – Tom, there are a ton of free ways you can drive a lot of traffic to your website quickly. The fastest way is social media. By using services like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit and others you can drive lots of visitors to your site for free (of course you have to invest a bit of time building up these profiles). Otherwise you can use free networking services such as Entrecard to drive some more people to your site. Other than that, it is a slow gradual process. Continue writing great content and you’ll see the search engines rewarding you. Don’t forget to practice good SEO in terms of your website. Optimize your meta tags, meta description, keyword targeting, tagging and much more to drive some nice organic traffic to your website (SEO does take time though, and effort).

Nick Throlson – Some people say making money online is clearly just luck! They get a good niche website rank high in SEO do you think its just pure luck or do you think there has to be some hard work to be done before the site lifts off?

Mattaw – In most successful ventures there is a element of luck. Most people that make it big can attribute some of it to luck. The other side of that is a lot of hard work. Those same people worked extremely hard and they then took advantage of that luck. So, my clear answer is there is a lot of hard work to be done, but when luck comes along, take advantage of it!

Sherry- how to get a PR higher than 4?

Mattaw – Sherry, that really depends on a factor of quality and compliance. Firstly, you need to get people reading and linking back to your content. Build one way links and good content and Google should pick up on it. The second factor is compliance. You have to follow the Google Webmaster Guidelines. If you don’t do so you could be easily punished for doing things such as selling links (and your PR will be killed).

Big Ben Patton - What is your opinion on using Stumble Upon purchased and targeted traffic when first starting out on a new blog to get your first influx of subscribers?

Mattaw – Ben, I don’t see why you have to purchase anything  . By spending 5 minutes a day building a quality StumbleUpon account you can easily achieve the same thing over the long term but for free. It is true that some targeted traffic can help jump start a new blog, but again, I don’t see why you have to pay for it.

Melvin - Mattaw, you have probably have seen people get in love w/making money online… how do you see web entrepreneurship/making money online in 5years from now? I mean how competitive can it be?

Mattaw – Well Melvin, my answer to that is it will only get more competitive from here. I think that we are still in the dawn of the era of making money online. Honestly, now is the time to exploit fields like affiliate marketing while not that many people know about it and actually use it. If you wait, you will see it just become harder to earn online because of increased competition. In five years I see there being a lot more people trying to do what we are doing now, and it being a lot harder for everyone to do so (besides the already established people) because of the fact that there are so many more people trying to do so.
