The catch 22 for many websites is that they are user driven. This blog is no exception and illustrates my point perfectly.
Without you the reader, this blog would be nothing. It would be an obscure website.
Many webmasters say, “I would make it big, if the website had more users”. Almost all community sites rely on their users for their income. Without visitors, how would you earn? So, taking this principle and expanding it, this means that the job of a website owner is more centered towards marketing his/her website to potential users.
You may have created a phenomenal product but without a user-base it will earn you zip, zilch, NOTHING!
What I want to point out today are three free methods that I find are exceptionally good at driving mass traffic to a new website to help it get started off.
Social media – all these websites (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc) are amazing at driving a multitude of hits to any website, but it usually has a high bounce rate and users the mass over quality principal, saying that if a low percent converts of many hits you will get more users than if a high percent of less traffic converts.
Interviews – these are not utilized enough. By interviewing a big name in your field you will not only get their attention but also provide some great content that is easier to promote. People want to read about big names, that’s about all I can say about this.
Networking – network with others in the same field as you. Maybe you will get a link or a shout-out on their website as a result (which can drive highly targeted traffic to your website). This includes forums which can be one of the best ways to send some free targeted traffic to your website. Be active and friendly and you’d be amazed at what can happen.
Tomorrow I will go into how to get an interview with that big name person in your industry so subscribe and keep your eyes peeled.

My new blog was launched yesterday and my first post for Stumbled straight away - and It was all natural.
I think it comes down to knowing what the people who use social networks want in content and then delivering it.
@ tom - Agreed, you can write for search engines or social media, you have to decide which you want to target and write for them to bring in some traffic.

Nice tips. In my opinion the beggest blog traffic comes from the social networks.
