I’m no professional SEO, but I did read an interesting short article a couple days back about how to get a free backlink from Twitter (unfortunately, I can’t remember where I read it). I want to share this with you guys as well.
The concept is simple, Twitter puts no-follow on your website links in your profile. But as demonstrated below (the red box means no follow), if you put your website link into your bio instead, it is do follow (this means that it passes on link juice (or value) to your website). Voila, a free backlink.
(Red box’s mean the link is no follow)
By just switching the location of your website link from “web” to “bio” (you can do so by going to the settings tab) you get a easy backlink for a few seconds of work. This is so simple and easy, I hope you guys found it useful.

This is one useful piece of tip anyone shouldn’t miss. The only thing is that your profile page may not have any PR at all so how much weight does it carry? Anyway, glad you share it with us.

I’m not sure if some of the earliest profile names on twitter have it grandfathered in, but i have seen (while my browser no-follow link highlighter is active ) that some rare profiles DO have LIVE do-follow links in their “web” link section of the profile.
its not consistent, some profiles had it, others didnt
seems weird to me, i dont get it.
I know the value of such backlinks and think its even worth it to reserve more than one twitter profile names, adding the do-follow links as you go, in case your needs change, or just to make sure that no-competitors squat on things like your brand name, blog name or personal name.
