As some of you may have seen, with the launch of BlogGears the site has been getting a fair bit of press. Some large names such as John Chow, UberAffiliate, Tyler Cruz, Click Consultants, Ian Fernando, Wes Mahler and many more have joined in.
I want to talk about how to create buzz for a project start up if you’re on a tight budget. I know not all of you have a fortune to blow on advertising, or don’t have contacts that can give you great deals, so I felt it was important to try and provide some solutions to help you guys get any new website off the ground.
Be 100% Sure It’s Ready To Go
The important thing with a new website is first appearance. Just like in real life, you only have a few seconds to make that initial impression that will help formulate the persons view of you/your website. That being said, you have to make sure your site is all ready to go appearance and functionality wise. If you’re going to do something, do it right. If it is not, you have the problem of turning away potential visitors and not being able to retain that critical amount of traffic it takes to get your website off the ground.
Leverage Relationships
If you have existing relationships use them for some good buzz. Honestly, I’ve made some great friends through being in this niche, friends that I would gladly help out in a second. These friends will usually do the same for you. By simply using your existing relationships you can get some good buzz for free (that being said, never abuse your relationships, that’s a way to loose them, and then you’re left with nothing…).
Social Media Buzz
Social media websites can be a great way to create some free buzz and get some targeted traffic to your new start up. Again it doesn’t take much to get this rolling. Just submit your entry to sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, Del.ico.us, Mixx and others. Get some friends to vote it up (or just let it run naturally) and start receiving the immediate traffic benefits.
It Never Hurts To Ask
Honestly, just ask around. Write letters to people, and reach out to others. You’d be surprised what can happen. For BlogGears I wrote John Chow a letter, and low and behold he contributed a video to the website and posted about it. This just yet again proves my point, if you don’t ask you’ll never know!

Agreed, the relationships are some of the most important parts of blogging and being a webmaster, I couldn’t agree more.
This is awesome, you have gotten off to a brilliant start
I am glad to see I am ranking higher than John Chow
Forests last blog post..Hello CBC Montreal Listeners
yep gotta ask I know alot of people that get scared of the person saying no but once you over come that fear of the two letters NO its a walk in the park to ask some one something!
Yes, the power of online relationship shouldn’t be underestimated. The more friends we have in the niche, the faster we could lift it off the ground.
Awesome tips and I’ll take a note of it.

Yeah man…just ask! People will be surprised how many people will really help out. I think you did a good job of creating buzz for it and such.
Wow, this is a really good post. I agree with your first point, make sure everything is ready before trying to create a buzz. I mean, don’t waste all your advertising budget just to promote an under construction site.
This isn’t my first time on this blog, but I’m not sure if this is the first time that I commented here. One thing’s for sure though, I’m subscribing! You’ve got awesome content…
