Confidence: a key to being a good blogger
Recently I read a post on JohnCow.com about how you can’t make money in the “make money online niche. Although I disagree with this post (found here). It brought up an important point. You need to be positive and confident to make money online. The post in general was a huge downer but did have some valid points in it about tips on starting a blog in the niche. One thing it certainly was, was argumentative and confident (and look, he has me talking about it here…).
Now even though “Geoff” made an huge mistake saying you can’t make money in the particular niche, he couldn’t be more wrong. Not only did he lie and say he had no advertising on his site (he has Entrecard, who’s credits can be sold for money on E-bay), he himself made money off his post. His post got him RSS readers who then convert to a statistic later on that helps him make money. But one thing to notice is how the big bloggers and good bloggers say things. They don’t say, well this is my opinion take it or not. No, they shove it in your face and back it up with facts. They don’t scrape topics of Digital Point Forums, they write original stuff, and write it with conviction.
If you sound confident, people will listen to you, if you don’t you’ll die in the lands of anonymity, and no one will remember your name. If you know what your talking about and sound like an authority people listen to you. If your not confident and try to please everyone, people will skip over you. Why would I want to listen to you go on about how your opinion could be wrong, when I could get a viewpoint and an argument to back it up from someone else.
Now, if you are going to be opinionated and confident, make sure you have facts to back it up. Don’t blow hot air, have a point to make, make sure you have hard facts to help you out. Otherwise you could quickly find yourself with your back against a wall defending your opinion. So, although sometimes making money online with a blog can be hard, don’t give up! Sound confident, post good content and you’ll be amazed what can happen.

Confidence is something that you really need if you’re going to succeed as a blogger. You can’t just regurgitate what everyone says and expect to develop a huge following and draw a ton of traffic.
I think you may have missed the point of my post. I didn’t say it was impossible to make money with a blog, I said that most people who try fail miserably.
Also, I’m serious. I don’t make any money with my blog. My ad spots are free, my reviews are free, and your statement about selling entrecard credits is a bit of a stretch. I actually made an entry about that awhile back. Feel free to read:
http://www.cantgetrich.com/2007/12/30/entrecard-credits-as-a-virtual-currency/
I saw that, i didn’t mean to say you were saying it was impossible, just in reality virtually impossible, You did give good tips to new bloggers. As I said, don’t take the post as negative.
But here’s my point about entrecards. If they are worth money, why wouldn’t you sell them. You have them and could potentially monetize them. therefore you are potentially making money off your blog. Hence the irony of you saying your not making any money off your blog. You in reality are making a pseudo currency off it (as it may very well have an exchange rate soon, as stated in your post).
That blog you linked to put the author to shame. He made a lot of valid points, but a lot of pointless and false points. Earning money online is not so impossible as he says, some little guy that actually lives near me did it well. His little site called ebaumsworld went from nothing to millions in no time (yes he actually lives near me but I’ve never really met him. Just know of him).
I also don’t agree with what he said about “no ads” either. Yes, people want to see content but no ads sounds ridiculous for a reason. People aren’t turned off by banner ads so much as popups. Banner ads give a sense of professionally and monetary support for the site so they don’t spend and do earn.
There are a bunch of nutjobs out there like him who don’t know what they are talking about but like to pretend to or make up some theory when they have no real knowledge and only minimal experience.
I wouldn’t call him a nutjob, and he does make valid points, but I feel he’s wrong in what he says, and pointed that out.
