Brand Identity: The logo

Brand identity in terms of a logo is important as part of building a great business online. It is what you are associated with when people think about your website. When I think BloggerNoob, I think the noobish baby. The same goes with almost every website I visit, they are all easily identifiable as belonging to the website.

What you need to do with your online website is to build up something users can remember then associate with your website. For me I have my coin with a bite taken out of it. Honestly, I’m not 100% satisfied with it and will probably get it changed before long.

A strong brand has to communicate a strong message. Whether that be power, strength, or a fun nature, it has to be communicated effectively.

Your brand logo is important because it sets the whole tone for your website. It is placed near the top of the page (99% of the time) and is the first thing users see when they come onto the website.

So here are a few tips about your brand logo to remember:

  • It has to relevant
  • It has to be eye catching
  • Don’t make it to complex – this will confuse people and make it hard to remember
  • It has to be able to be remembered easily
  • It has to be easy on the eyes – it should stand out but not so much that you want to shy away from it, integrate it into your theme and make it fit

The above will help a brand be formed. If your brand logo at the moment covers all of those good work. If you do change your brand logo or create a new one, remember, whenever you create something new, you can always go back to what your doing, so don’t be afraid to take risks.

On that note, any ideas for a new MoneyBites brand if I was to have one? I was thinking of a possible animated caricature like other people around online, but I’d love to hear form you guys!

  1. Certainly a brand logo is very important for your blog, it gives you an ID.
I personally like your brand :) but if you want to change it go ahead!.

  2. I like it to, but I was thinking maybe adding something onto it would be good, like, the cartoonish character of me leaning on it or something, who knows, just throwing around ideas…

  3. Hey Mattaw, just TedsGame from the Mixx community stopping by. I actually think your logo will do, it’s not mind blowing, but it’s above OK. I am though looking at logo and brand image the same way and I’m thinking of getting one soon myself. Anyways, feel free to drop me a shout any time if you come up with something new.

  4. I don’t think you should change your logo. I think it is very effective and I think it brands you well.
It is clean and to the point.

  5. Thanks guys, Ted, What kind of logo were you thinking of, I’m curious. In terms of my logo, I don’t plan on changing the base logo much if at all but maybe integrating the cartoonish sketch of myself into it could make it better or more appealing. As Ted said, its not mind blowing but it is clean and crisp.

  6. I agree, and it is definitely something I have to start working on. Maybe I can con Mattaw into helping me out :)

  7. Yes, logo is important if you need to brand your blog. You have very interesting logo here :). But most important is not to change the logo then you site become brand(some bloggers do that). It will confuse visitors.

PS. I like your blog template. Looks like JohnChow.com.

I wish you a big success in blogging

    Best regards

  8. Jonathon - I may just HAVE to give you a quick hand *sigh* but only if you ask politely :D

Ukion - The design was meant to be sleak and simple, but yes I agree with the design change in some cases. In others rebranding actually helps the brand by giving it a fresh spin. It depends on the industry you are in and your type f visitor.

    Thanks for your good wishes.

  9. I have a big presentation at work tomorrow, so after that I might put together a couple of logo ideas and run them by you. Thanks

  10. Okay, when you do you know where to find me ;) I’d be happy to take a look at them and give some suggestions…

  11. You don’t need a “logo” ( jesus hate the name) your brand is your name ” Money Bites” perfect. Easy to remember. I doubt whether I will remember your logo though. The Baldchemist

  12. That is true. I was discussing the logo as one element of the brand identity. Personally for the blog the brand name rather than the logo is the key part of the identity, you are right.

  13. I definitely agree. Perhaps high-quality graphics is necessary as well? Some logos and/or entrecards have always bugged me because they’re well-designed by saved at low qualities, way to ruin a good thing!

  14. Good call, resolution is important. A great image can be blurred and rendered ineffective as a result of bad graphics.

  15. hmmmmm, yeah, I think it all fits together to give you blog a face. I like your logo, but, understand wanting to change, I am never satisfied with stuff. I don’t know, I may get one and I may not, haven’t decided yet….I’ve always liked the cartoon stuff, I used to draw my own years ago, nothing like what’s available on most blogs, but, it’s fun.

As long as your blog has a brand it doesn’t matter what you use. Some use logos, some use mascots, some just throw up an ugly mugg of themselves (guitly lol). It’s just a matter of what you want to do and most of the time your readers will roll with it.
