Adapt or be left behind
Here is the other promised post. I know your bursting with excitement, brace yourself! We’re going to be talking about the concept of product renewal. A blog or website is a product. You can be the best website in the world, but if you don’t move and change, you will be left in the dirt.
You have the have your ear to the pavement. Listen in to what others in your industry have to say and try to get an idea of where its going. As with any industry you have to keep moving or you will loose your ground. An example of loosing ground to me would be Moola. Moola.com started out as a wonderful refreshing make money website. It had a couple of new games. Its been tons of time. All my interest in Moola has vanished (it was an interesting startup to follow). People are getting bored, even thought the community is active, unless they change soon, they will start to loose peoples attention.
If they release lots of new games, and actually make some new developments they might actually resurge as the interesting brand they started up as. That’s just a case example but it makes my point. If you don’t change you get left behind.
Never feel like you have your market cornered off. Do you think John Chow wakes up in the morning and doesn’t try to change at all? No, he adapts to the marketplace, and that’s in part what makes him so successful.
You have to constantly tweak certain aspects of your product. Remember, if something doesn’t work you can always go back to the tried and tested ways you used before but imagine how much further you would be if it did work. You’d have another edge to keep you ahead and being that dominant force that you should be.
Its survival of the fittest. You must adapt your product or you will be left in the dirt. If you’re a pioneer in your industry, your competition will come swooping in, you have to stay one step ahead of your competition. If you’re a new entry to a niche, you have to keep up. It’s the theory of business evolution. Adapt, or die!
