Ad Relevency Helps Your Website Earn
So, the other day I was talking to my friend who owns Brittanysblog.com. He and I were chatting about the blog and what he’s doing in terms of monetization. I quickly pointed out a major problem to him, and since he has fixed it, he is seeing higher conversion rates and as a result, more money in his pocket.
What am I talking about you ask? I am talking about ad relevancy. It is an important part of website monetization and many inexperienced webmasters don’t really consider it. While they aren’t optimizing their site fully, they are only loosing money.
If your website is about fashion, having webmaster banners, or say banners about real estate isn’t that great an idea right? You will make more if your ads are contextual with your website.
Relevancy is how your ad relates to the content of your site. If you match your ads with the content of your site, you will see a higher conversion rate.
There are a few ways to do this:
Contextual Networks
This is the simplest way to make sure your ads are relevant. They are networks like Google AdSense that scan your website’s content and try to match it with ads. Although some monitoring of the ads showed may be needed, there is substantially less than any other contextual options. These usually pay with a cost per click model. This means you get paid for every click you drive through your website.
CPA offers
CPA offers, are cost per action offers. You can find them in affiliate programs or companies like RocketProfit, Pepperjam Ads and many others that exist out there. You can match your website’s content with custom offers that pay per lead or sale. You can select matching offers and try to match them with your website’s content to create a higher conversion rate than those that get paid by contextual click ad networks.
Private Ad Sales and Networks
These are sales that are done privately selling ad space on your site. You can do this privately or use a company like AdToll to sell it through a network. These ads will probably have the most relevance to your websites. Because advertisers want to get higher conversion rates, you will find the ads that get bought from you will be fairly well matched to your websites content.
Do you have a website that is not running contextual ads? Re-evaluate your ad space and you’d be surprised how much more you can earn with space.

@ Nick - Yes, you really do. By not doing so, you are wasting potential money that can easily be earned.
@ Jon and Ted- Thanks
Hi Max,
Another great post.
On the flip side of the coin these are also very import points to be considered by the actual advertisers themselves it amazes my the amount of irrelevant advertising you see being splashed across the web and in ppc campaigns. They would generate far more sales by research key publishers in their field and approaching them for direct advertising opportunities. Ah well, some people like to learn the hard way.
True, relevant ads will net you a higher EPC and overall benefit both yourself (the advertiser) and the webmaster.
I agree with how you put it, “some people like to learn the hard way”. Hopefully by reading this post, those people won’t have to learn the hard way
