A Clever Way To Get Some Targeted Links By Publishing Useful Content

Article IdeaThis may be a bit “off the wall” but I want to pose a way to get some decent targeted links from writing content on your blog that you would normally write. It’s simple but it takes a bit of extra work.

The Idea

What I’m talking about is getting links (and some traffic) through releasing a slightly modified version of your article for reposting on other blogs (it should be modified so it isn’t counted as duplicate content).

If you write a great article that you think others will find helpful and could benefit others from republishing, why shouldn’t you benefit off it also. What you can do is put it into a zip file and offer it for redistribution from your blog.

This being said the article has to be unique so it isn’t counted as duplicate content. Luckily there is a free website called DupeCop that can compare articles and tell you how unique one article is compared to the next. I’d recommend getting your release article over 50% unique. You can do this by simply rephrasing sentences, changing wording and re-writing bits of the article. I can’t stress how important this is because unless you truly don’t care about the article you should try to make it as search engine friendly as possible and duplicate content is definitely not search engine friendly.

Now I know what you’re thinking, this seems like a lot of work, but if you are successful it can really help you out in the link building area. What I mean is that you can put targeted links (with the anchor text you want) in your article with a disclaimer stuck in the bottom (or in a text file in the zip) saying that they can’t republish the article without keeping all links intact.

That way anyone who publishes the article must give you a targeted backlink. The links are even better because they come from relevant text. Since the article you’d have written would be about your niche, the links would not only have targeted anchor text but also relevant text around them to make them stronger.

How To Create The Package

zip fileCreating the article package to be released is simple. I’ve done this once or twice and it takes about two minutes once you have the content written (and have made sure it’s unique).

What you do is simply save the text as a word document. Then just go into wordpress and paste it into a new post and save the content (don’t publish the repeat). This will allow you to quickly grab the html by hitting the html tab. After you’ve grabbed the html of your word document, just delete the post. Next save the html into an html file and call it the name of your post.

If you want to write a small note about conditions (keeping links in tact mainly and publishing rights) I suggest doing this in a notepad document and saving it separately labeled appropriately.

Finally once everything is good to go, zip it up, upload it to your server and just link to it from your post. A simple “Want to republish this article, click here” or something of the like should work.

An Example Of Success

I can give a personal example to validate this method. I do want to say I did not take the duplicate content step for this case because it was purely a list of contests and it was time sensitive so serps for it wasn’t my first priority (getting it out there brought me a ton of traffic and backlinks). What post am I talking about, well, that would be my MarketLeverage Contest List post.

I published the post (which was a list of all the MarketLeverage contests on at the time) because I saw an opportunity to test this method and get some good backlinks. I included a zip file at the end for republishing (as long as all the links stayed intact).

Guess what, it worked like a charm! I got the post republished on quite a few blogs including Jonathan Volk’s affiliate marketing blog (that brought me some nice traffic) which gave me some great backlinks. This method brought me a few decent PR backlinks as well as some good traffic. For almost no additional effort, I’d say that was a success!

Wrap-Up

If you have a really great post you think others would repost, I’d suggest trying this method out. Who knows it could really take off and give you a ton of highly targeted backlinks and help you rank for that term you always wanted or just bring you a bit more traffic. You never know if you never try!

Great concept. I’ve been looking for some good ways to expand upon my back links and gain some ground with the all mighty Google and this seems to be just the trick.

Hey that is very smart! I post articles on blogs but never thought about giving a link to a variation of my article, for others to use. Great idea!
